His research is focused on the political and economic role of mass media, public opinion formation and public finance, and has been published on top and top-field journals in economics and political science, such as the Journal of the European Economic Association, the Journal of Politics, the Journal of Public Economics, and the Quarterly Journal of Political Science. He is a member of the editorial board of lavoce.info. He currently teaches macroeconomics and political economy in Pavia, and public economics and political economy in Bocconi. Previously, he taught quantitative methods and game theory in the Political Science department at MIT (2005-2007) and was a Marie Curie Fellow at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (2007-2009). In 2013-14 he was a member of spending review group on costs of politics, led by Carlo Cottarelli, while in 2016 he was awarded with Jim Snyder (Harvard) the Hicks-Tinbergen Medal for the best paper published during the past two years on the Journal of the European Economic Association.
