In the past, he spent research periods at the University of Essex, the University Carlos III of Madrid, the University of Barcelona, Tilburg University, and the University of California at Berkeley, among others. His main research interests are in the field of Education, Labor, Population and Health Economics. In 2016-2018, he worked for the European Commission Joint Research Centre (Ispra, Italy) contributing to the evaluation activities of the Competence Centre on Microeconomic Evaluation (CC-ME). He wrote extensively on female labor force participation and fertility decisions, the economic and health returns to education, and the determinants and consequences of students’ educational choices and performance. He is also interested in topics in international economics (e.g., determinants of firm exporting behavior) and migration (economic effects of migration). His work has been published in journals such as the European Economic Review, Journal of Health Economics, Journal of Urban Economics, Journal of Regional Science, Health Economics, International Migration Review, International Journal of Industrial Organization, Journal of Population Economics, Labour Economics, Economics of Education Review, Journal of the Royal Statistical Society – Series A, and Regional Studies among others.
